Jack's family tree probably includes some Austrailian Cattle Dog and maybe even a dash of Dingo. His white coat is sprinkled with cinnaman freckles. His ultramarine blue collar and bright orange-and-blue ball add a jazzy complementary color note. After I blocked in the couch and pillows and painted Jack loosely, I worked back and forth scumbling colors into the couch and glazing Jack with purples, rusts and blue-greys. After each round of glazes, I added coats of white to keep his coat flashy. His bright golden eye is the focal point, making us wonder whom he is watching! This is another great diagonal composition — the patterns and edges of the pillows lead the eye around the painting and point back to Jack's face.
