Tom's Tomato, Oil on gessoed board
16" x 20"

As I was working on "Kentucky Bourbon", the portrait of my sister Anne, she sent me a photo of Tom standing in his garden, a fabulous outsized ripe red tomato in his hand and a triumphant grin on his face. I knew that this would make the perfect mate for Anne’s portrait. I started with a dark blue underpainting. Much research went into the background, using pieces of various photos, but adding the colorful tangle of tomato plants surrounding the figure. Like Anne’s "Kentucky Bourbon", this portrait was enormous fun to paint!
