Tyler is an English Cocker Spaniel whose family tree includes Annie, his grandmother, whose portrait I did some years ago. Tyler's owner points out that the male English Cockers have the more flamboyant coat patterns, and Tyler is clear evidence of that with the elaborate, almost calligraphic, lines in his coat. He was quite challenging to paint. I had to work back and forth from light to dark and then dark to light to achieve the depth of color and the fine detail in the rythmic waves of his coat.
