I love Georgia O'Keeffe's work. My notion here was to do some sort of tribute to her. Without a very clear idea of what I would include in this work, I began with a grisaille sketch of a photo, adding layers of color glazes to add life to her face and hands. I scattered colorful elements from Georgia's paintings and her surroundings in Taos, New Mexico. The landscape fragments outside the door are pieces from her desert paintings drawn into an imaginary scene. The small bas-relief addition at bottom left shows Georgia carrying a canvas covered with Indian Blanket flowers from my garden. The tiny trompe l'oeil skull taped to the board evokes her many paintings of animal skulls.
