My friend Don Schroder took some beautiful photos of foxes last spring. The winter had been mild with very little snow. With a telephoto lens, he could get quite close to the foxes without disturbing them. I particulary liked this pose, with the young fox snugly ensconced on his bed of dry leaves. The sun turns his coat to a burnished gold in the late afternoon light. I used a limited palette of brown and buff mixes, and many overlays of ochre, burnt siena and bright yellow glazes for his illuminated coat.
