I am fascinated by sea gulls. They are plentiful on Cape Cod and in Maine, and I love their high-pitched complaints as they float effortlessly above me. The expression on this bird’s face is typical. The seashore is his kingdom, The sea gives him food, the rocks give him shelter, the sun gives him light and warmth. He dares me to enter his world at my peril. This wonderful photograph was taken by Pat Hembrough, who graciously gave me permission to use it as a reference.
