Redford's dazzling smile and tousled hair are rendered in a Pointillist technique with only three colors used — gold, rust and chocolate. The Croquill pen allows me to vary the size of dots — the finer the dot, the lighter the value. My idea in this drawing was to simplify all the shapes, and to leave as much white space as possible without losing the resemblance. The original photo was in black and white, so I was free
to interpret colors creatively. |
