Wolfgang has always loved the sea. He is pictured here on a fishing trip in Cape Cod Bay. We went out one afternoon with our friends Annie and Andy, and I took photos as the others caught fresh bluefish for dinner. The afternoon light was dazzling, creating gilded edges on Wolfie’s profile. I decided a painting of this glorious trip would make the perfect Christmas present for him. Watercolor lends itself to fine details, like the intricate ribbing in the cuffs of his L. L. Bean Sweater and the silver flashes in his curly hair. We spent many evenings in our living room in Harwich with Wolfgang working on his gorgeous ship models and I at my drawing table.
